Leonard Slye, better known as cowboy star Roy Rogers, is born in Cincinnati, Ohio. A singer, actor, and the namesake of the Roy Rogers Restaurants chain, his voice can be heard in Disney's Pecos Bill segment of the 1948 Melody Time. Enormously popular throughout the 1940s and 1950s, Rogers was second only to Walt Disney in the amount of merchandising items bearing his name!

The Mickey Mouse short The Beach Party, directed by Bert Gillett, is released.

1937:
Disney's Silly Symphony cartoon The Old Mill, directed by Wilfred Jackson, is released by RKO Radio Pictures. This is the first film to use the multiplane camera, a device invented by Ub Iwerks and the Disney staff, that adds realism to the animation. The special camera gives depth by using layers of backgrounds painted on glass. About an abandoned mill
which is now a home for wildlife, this short and the camera will both win Oscars.

The NBC-TV series Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color airs "Inside Donald Duck."
1990:
The Yacht Club Resort (the twin sister to the Beach Club Resort) opens at 1700 Epcot Resorts Blvd in Walt Disney World. Located just west of Epcot, the hotel is set around a 25-acre lake. The deluxe resort resembles the New England seaboard hotels of the late 1800s.
2004:
The Disney/Pixar animated film The Incredibles opens in theaters nationwide. A
special midnight showing is held at Disney's El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood, California. Written and directed by Brad Bird, the film stars an ensemble voice cast including Holly Hunter, Craig T. Nelson, Sarah Vowell, Spencer
Fox, Jason Lee, Samuel L. Jackson and Elizabeth Peña.
2006:
The first two preview shows of Finding Nemo - The Musical takes place at Animal Kingdom in Florida. (After a soft-opening November 12, the show will officially open January 24, 2007.)

Singer and actress Andrea McArdle, who played Belle in Disney's
Broadway hit Beauty and the Beast in 1999, is born in Philadelphia,
Pennsylvania. She also appeared on the 2002 broadcast of The Walt Disney World Christmas Day Parade. (As a youngster McArdle was the original star of the Broadway musical hit Annie.)

Illustrator Peter Emmerich is born in New York City. He began his career with
Disney as a character artist for Walt Disney Consumer Products (where he worked for over two years) before
being promoted to Chief Illustrator and Official Character Artist for the Disneyland Resort.
1987:
Paul Kevin "Kevin" Jonas Jr., the eldest member of the Jonas Brothers,
is born in Teaneck, New Jersey.
1994:
OC Register reports that - "After ferrying 150 million passengers between
Tomorrowland and Fantasyland over the past 38 years, Disneyland’s Skyway will
make its last trip Wednesday." (Four days later the attraction - running since June 1956 - will
permanently close.)

The Annie Awards are handed out at ATAS Plaza Theatre in Los Angeles, California. Disney's Aladdin wins Best Animated Feature. Among the 3 Winsor McCay Award winners is Roy Edward Disney.

Jack McVea, a swing, blues, and rhythm and blues woodwind player, is born in Los Angeles, California. Playing clarinet and tenor and baritone saxophone, he joined Lionel Hampton's orchestra in 1940. McVea took part in the very first Jazz at the Philharmonic concert in July 1944. From 1966 till his retirement in the 1980s he led a group which played traditional jazz at Disneyland, called "The Royal Street Bachelors" in New Orleans Square.
